Vibrations: Power And Range

Max Power Rating 7.5 7.0
Power Range Rating 7.5 7.1
Power vs Frequency Graph
How Strong Is Each Power?

The Lovehoney Deluxe Plug-in wand has moderate vibration power – stronger than most mini wands, but softer than most full-sized wands, maxing out at 6.7 out of 10. It’s certainly more powerful than any non-wand vibrator I own, but it’s not extreme. It can be a good option for those who enjoy a nice kick of power but don’t want anything too overwhelming.

It also provides plenty of power range – beginning softly at a 1.9 of 10 and working gradually in small steps through 10 levels up to its highest power. Most large wands have between 4 and 8 power levels, so the Lovehoney Deluxe’s 10 settings provide more subtle steps between levels than other wands.

Lovehoney Plug In with Stronger Wands
The Lovehoney Deluxe Plug-In (left) with two stronger wands for this size – the BMS PalmPower Extreme (middle) and Magic Wand Plus (right)

I personally only need level 5 or 6 to orgasm, so unless you need something very intense, you’ll likely be happy with this wand’s power range. But if you want the extreme strength full-sized wands are famous for, others like the BMS PalmPower Extreme or Magic Wand Plus will suit you better.

The BMS Swan Era has a reasonable power range, starting gently and reaching a moderate 5 out of 10 strength on high.

This is only half the strength of my strongest wands, but it’s still stronger than most of my non-wand vibrators, and enough for me.

This is a wider power range and higher max power than most of what you’ll find in this price range. Only one wand at this price has as much range as the Swan Era while reaching a higher top strength – the Orion Your New Favorite Wand.

BMS Swan Era Wand and Orion Your New Favorite Wand

The Swan Era Wand’s press and hold, continuous control system allows you to make tiny adjustments to the power. If you want a slow, gradual build and don’t need anything too strong, the Swan Era is a great choice at this price. For more power, consider something stronger like the Orion Your New Favorite Wand.

Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)

Rumbliness Rating 6.6 7.9

Frequency on Low Power 56 Hz 36 Hz
Median Frequency 83 Hz 51 Hz
Frequency on High Power 98 Hz 73 Hz

We rate wands with rumbly vibrations higher than buzzy ones because most people tend to prefer them. However, preferences vary and some people enjoy neutral or even buzzy vibrations more – the Lovehoney plug-in wand is best for these people.

Although its first four settings are rumbly, the higher settings range from neutral to moderately buzzy. Many people will need its middle or upper levels to orgasm so you’ll likely spend a lot of time on the neutral-feeling or buzzy settings.

While I personally prefer more rumbly wands, I still enjoy this wand’s vibrations since they are not overly powerful or extremely buzzy. The buzziness is not overwhelming like other wands, such as the Viben Obsession. The Lovehoney wand will be in the sweet spot for some people. But the majority of people will prefer something more rumbly like the Magic Wand Rechargeable or PalmPower Extreme.

We rate rumbly vibrations higher than buzzy ones because it’s what most people prefer. However, this is an area of personal preference, so consider what you enjoy.

The BMS Swan Era Wand is impressively rumbly, especially considering its tiny size and affordability. Every setting in this continuous range is either extremely or moderately rumbly. These low-frequency vibrations travel deep into your body for an impactful, spread-out feel.

The BMS Swan Era Wand (left) and comparable low-frequency, affordable options: the Orion Your New Favorite Wand (middle) and Satisfyer Wand-er Woma (right).

The depth of the vibrations stood out to me when I first started using this toy because vibrations with this much depth are often more expensive. The Orion Your New Favorite Wand and Satisfyer Wand-er are the only comparable wands at this price point, but they’re larger.

It’s a great choice for those seeking rumbly vibes on a budget!

This wand is larger, which can make it more challenging to maneuver due to its weight and bulkiness. Even compared to other full-sized wands it’s longer with a larger head. The wide handle also requires more effort to grip firmly compared to slimmer handles.

However, the weight can also feel good, as it provides natural pressure and does some of the work for you. Larger wands like this offer diffuse, broad stimulation. While some, like the Magic Wand Rechargeable, have a cylindrical head with a lip that provides more focused stimulation when you’d like, the Lovehoney Plug-in Wand has a very round shape, providing broad stimulation only.

Magic Wand Rechargeable Cylindrical Head vs Rounded Lovehoney Plug In Head

The buttons on this wand are easy to feel and use. You don’t need to cycle through intensity levels, as it has separate buttons to increase and decrease power.

The BMS Swan Era Wand is very easy to use and comfortable, with the exception of some vibrations in the handle.

It’s hard to avoid feeling hand vibrations on small wands like this since the motor is so close to your hand. However, since it’s so rumbly, I don’t find the handle vibrations distracting. But if you’re extra sensitive to this, the Romp Presto does a better job of keeping the vibrations isolated to the head.

Leveraging the short handle for long periods could be more tiring than wands with longer handles. But at just 4.9 ounces, its very light so it’s easy to hold. And the flared base provides a good leverage point for the thumb when applying pressure. This tiny wand is easy to move around, and the silky silicone provides a comfortable grip.

Leveraging The BMS Swan Era Wand Handle
The BMS Swan Era Wand has a flared base, which helps provide good leverage despite its small size.

Traditional wands have a large head for broad stimulation, like the Orion Your New Favorite Wand. But the BMS Swan Era has a small head, which is great if you prefer more precise stimulation than large wands provide.

Since the Swan Era’s vibrations are so rumbly, they can bump against your pubic bone more easily since the vibration movements are bigger, so the small head is important. This way, you can limit contact to fleshier areas to keep it comfortable.

The single button press-and-hold control system is different than most and takes some familiarization if you’re not used to it. But it allows very gradual power adjustments instead of limiting you to preset power settings.

Hold the button until you reach the desired strength, then let go. Then tap once to turn it off, and again to start at the lowest strength. This makes it easy to reach the strongest or weakest power quickly.

Use During Sex

This wand’s large size makes it tricky to use during sex. It has the biggest head of any wand we’ve tested, even though it’s not more powerful than similar wands.

The bulky head requires you to spread your legs fairly wide to fit the wand near your clit. In most positions, my partner and I need to be aware of our body placement and adjust to accommodate the wand’s size.

And since its vibrations aren’t extremely rumbly nor extra powerful, I need to fit the head pretty near to my clit. Whereas stronger, more rumbly full-sized wands like the Magic Wand Rechargeable can effectively stimulate my clit indirectly. So precise placement isn’t as necessary.

Lovehoney Plug In Head Plushness
The firmness of the Lovehoney Plug-In Wand’s head (above) vs the plush head of Magic Wands (below)
Magic Wand Head Plushness

The wand’s head is quite firm with minimal flexibility, causing uncomfortable pressure on my pubic area during sex. Additionally, the wand is heavy and corded, making it somewhat tiring to hold in place and maneuver around the cord. A smaller, rechargeable option like the Lovense Domi is much easier to handle and move.

The BMS Swan Era Wand is great to use during sex. The small head and short handle easily fit into tight spots.

In positions facing your partner, you can get direct contact, and since the vibes are so rumbly, they travel deep into your body, so stimulation is great. Since the head is firm, it can be uncomfortable if it gets pressed against your pubic bone, but the small size makes it easier to keep out of the way.

In doggystyle, the handle is too short to rest on the bed, but it’s so light that I can hold it for a long time without getting tired.

The head moves around more in the spooning position since it’s so small. It’s harder to keep wedged between your legs, but this also means the vibes don’t fatigue your legs as much. The stimulation is still good, but it’s not as consistent in this position as I’ve found with other wands with slightly broader heads like the Romp Presto.

Romp Presto and BMS Swan Era Wand
The Romp Presto (right) stays in place better than the BMS Swan Era Wand (left) because it has a larger head.

If you want something small for easy maneuverability and versatility during sex, this is a great mini wand.

Noise

Audibility Behind Closed Door 4.0 4.0

Middle Power Audible Audible
High Power Audible Audible
High Power with Box Fan Inaudible Audible
High Power with Music Inaudible Inaudible

Even though the Lovehoney Plug-in wand is not extremely powerful, it is audible on every power level when I’m using it behind a closed bedroom door. You can turn on a box fan or music to mask the noise. But there are certainly more discreet options with greater power including the Magic Wand Rechargeable and the Viben Sultry.

The BMS Swan Era has mediocre noise levels, particularly because it sometimes rattles.

In our test from behind the closed bedroom door, my partner could not hear the lowest power, but mid-strengths were audible whenever I didn’t have the wand pressed to my body. And high power was always easily audible.

Our decibel recordings on high power are based on the noise level with the rattling sound. You can hear what it sounds like with and without the rattling in the video above, but of course you can’t control that. Sometimes when using the wand it wouldn’t rattle. Other times it’d start rattling after several minutes of use.

Even with a box fan running, my partner could still just barely hear the rattling on high power. Only music would mask the noise.

This means it’s not a good choice if discretion is important. The Romp Presto, another affordable mini wand, was inaudible from the other side of the door in all our tests if you need something quieter.

Attachment Compatibility

Attachment Compatibility Rating 10.0 5.8
Lovehoney Deluxe Extra Powerful Plug-in Wand Compatible Wand Attachments
BMS Swan Era Wand Compatible Wand Attachments
Number of Attachments Rating 10.0 2.9
Stimulation Variety 10.0 8.8

The Lovehoney Deluxe Plug-in Wand is compatible with a wide variety of wand attachments. Its head is close in size to the Magic Wand brand, so attachments designed for those wands also fit the Lovehoney wand.

You can find compatible attachments for many kinds of stimulation including penis, G-spot, anal, prostate, clitoral, and dual-stimulation. See our full wand attachment compatibility table for all wands and attachments we’ve tested.

The BMS Swan Era Wand has poor attachment compatibility, but you can still find a few options that work.

A couple of my smaller, or extra stretchy attachments worked well. The PalmPower Rechargeable attachments stayed on with friction, but they don’t snap into place for additional security like they do with their own wand.

Large wand heads have the best attachment compatibility, so the Orion Your New Favorite Wand is a better affordable wand if you prioritize this.

I test my wands using Liberator mounts for hands-free stimulation – the Axis and Wanda.

With the Axis, the wand’s head is large enough to reach my clit and provide good stimulation. However, the head is very firm, and there is a sharp ridge at the top of the handle, making it uncomfortable when I press my body more firmly against the head for additional pressure.

Lovehoney Plug In Uncomfortable Ridge During Mount Use

But when resting normally, the broad head provides a comfortable, diffuse surface. And the handle size keeps the wand held firmly in place in the mount.

The Wanda mount holds the wand in a mostly upright position, allowing you to kneel above it or rest on your hands and knees. The head is positioned at an ideal height for easy clitoral contact. Again, I wish the head were softer for better comfort. But as long as you don’t press too firmly, it remains comfortable.

The BMS Swan Era Wand has very poor compatibility with mounts.

It does not fit in the Wanda Mount at all.

In the Axis, the small head prevents it from making good contact with your body. Some of the vibrations do travel for some stimulation since the vibes are so rumbly, but most people will find this stimulation underwhelming.

The Orion Your New Favorite Wand is a better wand in this price range if you want to enjoy hands-free play with a mount.

This wand is a plug-in wand, which comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. You’ll never reach for your wand and realize you forgot to charge it. It’s always ready to go. But you need to play near an outlet. Though the cord is 2.4 meters (~8 feet) long so there’s plenty of room. Some people will not enjoy having to position a cord out of their way – others aren’t bothered by it.

The BMS Swan Era Wand is rechargeable but has a shorter battery life than other wands. It lasted for 55 minutes on high power in our test, which could be enough if you charge between uses.

But the Orion Your New Favorite Wand lasts longer on an even higher top strength, so this is a better option if you frequently forget to charge.

Build Quality

Build Quality Rating 9.0 8.0

The plastic handle of this wand feels well-constructed and sturdy. The neck has a good thickness to it, so I’m not ever worried I’ll break it if I apply firm pressure.

The buttons are not quite as comfortable as other wands, and the firm silicone head does not feel as high-quality as the plush silicone of the Magic Wand Rechargeable and others. But overall, it’s a well-built wand.

The BMS Swan Era Wand seems to have good build quality.

The all-over silicone provides a sleek, comfortable, and completely sealed feel. The neck has some flex but seems sturdy and not prone to breaking. The button has a nice press-feel, and I like the weight of it – neither too light nor too heavy.

Within the first week or two, the motor started rattling after a few minutes of higher-powered use, which could indicate degradation over time. It hasn’t affected performance so far, but it could be annoying to some.
