Vibrations: Power And Range

Max Power Rating 3.2 7.0
Power Range Rating 5.2 6.5
Power vs Frequency Graph
How Strong Is Each Power?

The Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium is one of the least powerful wands I own. Its vibrations are gentle from start to finish. I can orgasm with it, but it takes time and effort.

I have bullet vibrators that are stronger than this wand. If all you want is the strength of a bullet, I would recommend something less expensive like the Lovense Ambi, or the We-Vibe Tango X if you prefer more rumbly vibrations. Or if you want something with a bit more length and a handle to grip, consider the Lelo Mona 2 or Lovense Hyphy.

The Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium (left) with stronger, non-wand vibrators: We-Vibe Tango X (top), Lovense Ambi (bottom), Lovense Hyphy (purple) and Lelo Mona 2 (far right)

But if you want the strength that wands are famous for, then there are several stronger, cheaper wands. Consider the Lovense Domi or BMS PalmPower Extreme for powerful mid-sized wands. Or the Magic Wand Plus for a full-sized wand.

This is a dual-ended wand, and both the Calexotics Charisma Mystique’s motors have a mediocre power range with primarily moderate-feeling strengths.

The wand end’s first setting has a 1.7 out of 10 strength, but since the vibrations are buzzy, it doesn’t feel as gentle a start as other similar wands provide. The 3 power settings aren’t as gradual of steps as I’ve found with other wands either.

The Charisma Mystique’s maximum 4.92 strength is enough power for me, especially since the vibrations are so buzzy, causing the vibes to strongly affect the exact area you touch them to. However, this is less than half the power of my strongest wands. If you want more extreme strength, the Orion Your New Favorite Wand is the strongest in this price range.

The handle end has its own motor and starts a bit softer at 1.20, reaching a top strength of 4.67. It also has 3 power levels and 9 patterns, just like the wand end. The lower starting point makes it slightly better for a gentle warmup, though its top strength is no stronger than the wand end.

For a moderate experience with more gradual steps, consider the more affordable Romp Presto. Or for a more intense experience, consider the Orion Your New Favorite Wand.

Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)

Power and Frequency Balance 3.6 5.1

This wand’s vibrations are rumbly (low-frequency) rather than buzzy (high-frequency). And typically, rumbly vibrations are what people prefer.

However, the Smart Wand 2 Medium’s vibrations are so low-powered, that they still have little impact on me even with their rumbliness. But there are many wands that have more power with the same amount of rumbliness, and our rumbliness rating takes this into account.

Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium with Lovense Domi 2 We-Vibe Wand 2 and Lelo Smart Wand 2 Large
The Lelo Medium with some stronger, more rumbly alternatives. From left to right: Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium, Lovense Domi 2, We-Vibe Wand 2, and Lelo Smart Wand 2 Large.

Some of these include the Lovense Domi 2, We-Vibe Wand 2, and the full-sized Lelo Smart Wand 2 Large – each is a powerful, rumbly wand.

We score rumbly vibrations higher than buzzy ones because it’s what most people prefer. However, I often enjoy neutral-feeling or moderately buzzy vibrations, so choose based on your preference.

The Charisma Mystique’s wand end is one of the buzziest wands we’ve tested. None of its settings fall into the rumbly range, and even as someone who enjoys moderate buzziness, I found the sound of its high-pitched vibrations distracting.

The handle end is slightly better. Its low setting is moderately rumbly and much more comfortable. You could use that end for a more rumbly warmup. But if you want a wand with rumbly settings throughout, the BMS Swan Era Wand is a better option in this price range.

Comfort & Ease of Use

Easy Cleaning 10.0 10.0
Waterproof Rating IPX7 IPX7

The Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium is a comfortable and easy-to-use wand. Its thin, curved handle is comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver.

The smaller head has a tiny bit of flex in the neck, which is perfect for comfy, yet firm pressure. And the buttons let you increase and decrease power to get the right stimulation level. You don’t need to cycle through power levels.

But if you’re going to buy a wand at this price, you can find more better options that are just as comfortable. The Magic Wand Mini is an excellent option that’s a similar size, has stronger vibrations, is just as comfortable – and is much cheaper.

The Dame Com is another mid-sized wand massager with a curved handle that’s helpful for applying firm pressure. But I enjoy its vibrations more.

The Calexotics Charisma Mystique is comfortable, aside from some handle vibrations. But the controls are a big drawback, and one of the main reasons I don’t recommend it.

Each motor has a single button to control it. But the button only cycles forward through 3 power levels and 9 patterns – you can’t go backward or adjust strength independently of pattern. That means to decrease the power, you must cycle through all the remaining settings!

Worse, the toy’s memory feature restarts it where you left off, meaning you can’t reset it to the lowest strength by turning the toy off and back on.

Besides the controls, the Mystique is easy to maneuver and apply firm pressure with because of its slim handle and firm internal core. The handle is long enough to find a comfortable grip easily. And even though the head is firm, its small size makes it comfortable to limit pressure to where you want it.

Some vibrations travel into your hand, especially at higher intensities. This can feel tickly or distracting over time. For better controls and reduced hand vibrations, I recommend the Romp Presto.

Use During Sex

Spooning 8.0 8.0
Doggystyle 7.4 8.5
Modified Missionary 7.4 7.0
Cowgirl 9.5 9.0

This wand’s size and curved shape are fairly convenient during sex, but the stimulation is too low to be truly enjoyable.

If you want any sort of stimulation from these low-powered vibes, you have to apply the pressure more directly to your clit than is usual for a wand. And even though the head is not large – it’s not as small as my bullets. So I have a more difficult time getting good clitoral contact during sex, between our bodies.

Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium Head Size vs Focused Stimulation
At this power level, I recommend smaller heads than the Lelo Medium (left). The Lovense Hyphy (middle) and We-Vibe Tango X (right) provide this for more direct stimulation

I recommend either using a smaller vibrator like the We-Vibe Tango X or Lovense Hyphy.

Or if you prefer a wand massager, you can just get something stronger. This way, you don’t need contact with your clit to be as direct to feel the vibes. I enjoy plenty of other wands during sex.

The BMS PalmPower Extreme and Lovense Domi are two of my favorites.

The Charisma Mystique is decently usable during sex because of its small size and dual-ended design.

The small head fits into tighter spaces (like during face-to-face positions) than a full-sized wand, and if the wand end doesn’t reach comfortably, you can flip it to use the slimmer handle end, so it’s pretty versatile. The firm core also makes it easy to leverage, even for long periods, in all positions.

Calexotics Charisma Mystique Both Ends in Tight Spaces
The Calexotics Charisma Mystique’s handle end can fit into tighter spots than the wand end.

However, the vibrations themselves aren’t that great, so you need more direct clitoral contact with this wand than with others. And the awkward controls make mid-sex adjustments annoying. Overall, in this price range, I still prefer the Romp Presto during sex.

High Power with Box Fan Inaudible Inaudible
High Power with Music Inaudible Inaudible

The Lelo Smart Wand 2 (Medium) is definitely one of the quietest wands I own. But it’s not hard to be this quiet with such low power. There are many stronger wands that also remain discreet.

The We-Vibe Wand 2 for instance is a compact option that’s about 5x stronger and very discreet. My partner can’t hear any of its power levels on the other side of the closed bedroom door.

The Charisma Mystique has average noise levels in terms of volume, but the high-pitched tone of the vibrations is grating, which makes me not want to use it.

My partner couldn’t hear it through a closed door on low or medium, but easily heard it on high. Since you have to cycle through the loudest setting every time you adjust the intensity, this isn’t a discreet wand.

The Romp Presto is quieter across all settings and better if you live with others – it was inaudible from the other side of the door on every setting in our test.

Attachment Compatibility

Attachment Compatibility Rating 5.0 5.4
Lelo Smart Wand 2 - Medium Compatible Wand Attachments
Calexotics Charisma Mystique Compatible Wand Attachments
Number of Attachments Rating 2.5 3.3
Stimulation Variety 7.5 7.5

The Smart Wand Medium has limited compatibility with wand attachments.

Its head is close enough in size to the Lovense Domi’s that the attachments designed for it also fit the Smart Wand. These cover a decent range of stimulation (G-spot, anal, prostate, penis, clitoral texture). But you don’t have many options beyond these attachments.

If attachment compatibility is important to you, a full-sized wand is a better option. Most attachments are designed for the Magic Wand Rechargeable and Plus (or comparably-sized wands).

The Calexotics Charisma Mystique has very poor compatibility with attachments.

It fits with the Lovense Domi attachments and two of my other smaller attachments. This provides some variety, but if you want many options, the Charisma Mystique is not for you.

Most attachments are designed for wands with full-sized heads, and the Mystique’s compact head just isn’t compatible with them. If you want a low-cost wand that works with a broad variety of accessories, the Orion Your New Favorite Wand is a better choice.

Compatibility with Wanda 10.0 0.0

I test my wands’ mount compatibility with my two Liberator mounts – the Axis and Wanda. These hold your wand for you so you can enjoy hands-free stimulation.

The Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium fits well with the Wanda mount. This mount holds the wand in a slightly angled upright position. Then you straddle the mount for hands-free vibes. With the Smart Wand Medium’s more compact size, its head is positioned at just the right height. You can easily lower your weight onto it – whereas full-sized wands can stick up too high in the Wanda.

It doesn’t work as well in the Liberator Axis. With this mount, you lie on your stomach and the Axis holds your wand to the side at a slight upward angle. In this position, the Smart Wand’s smaller size hurts it. It doesn’t reach my clit as easily as larger wands and I have to focus on keeping my body in just the right position.

Wand In Use with Axis Overlay
My typical position when using the Liberator Axis mount (demonstrated with BMS PalmPower Extreme)

With mounts, I prefer wand vibrator’s with larger heads. The BMS PalmPower Extreme and Dame Com are my two favorites to use with both mounts. They have larger heads and angled shapes that help keep them in better contact with my clit than the Smart Wand Medium.

We test mount compatibility with both the Liberator Axis and Wanda mounts. The Calexotics Charisma Mystique has very poor compatibility with the Axis and does not fit at all in the Wanda.

The Wanda is designed to let you straddle the mount or sit on it for hands-free stimulation, but the Mystique is too small and falls too deep into the mount, providing no stimulation.

The Axis, which holds the wand slightly angled while you lie on top of it, does manage to hold the Mystique in place. But the small head size makes it hard to get consistent stimulation. The wand doesn’t provide enough surface area or pressure to maintain good contact during movement.

If you’re looking for a mount-compatible wand at a similar price, the Orion Your New Favorite Wand’s full-sized head makes it fit both mounts much better.

Battery Life

Battery Life on High Power 40 Minutes 47 Minutes

Charging Cable Round Plug Pin

The Lelo Smart Wand Medium has one of the shortest battery lives of all my wands. It lasts just 40 minutes on its highest power.

There are several longer-lasting options with more power. The comparably-sized Magic Wand Mini has more power and lasts for 3.5 hours on high! It’s a great option if you’re like me, and forget to charge your wand between uses.

The Calexotics Charisma Mystique is rechargeable, but has a poor battery life, lasting only 47 minutes on high in our test.

Since this only reaches a moderate strength, this is unimpressive compared to the stronger Orion Your New Favorite Wand that lasts nearly 2x as long.

Build Quality

Build Quality Rating 9.0 7.0

The sleek, silicone and metallic plastic handle gives a sleek look to the Lelo Smart Wand 2 Medium that’s comfortable and functional. Overall this wand feels well-built and solid, though its motor is gentler than other wands.

The Calexotics Charisma Mystique has fair build quality.

The all-over silicone has a nice texture, and the toy has a solid weight that gives it a somewhat sturdy feel in the hand. Its moderately flexible neck holds up well to firm pressure without feeling like it might snap.

That said, several aspects feel cheap. The vibrations are very buzzy and high-pitched, which gives the impression of lower quality. And the pinhole charging port requires puncturing the silicone to insert the cable, which feels outdated and makes me nervous about the waterproof aspect long-term.

Calexotics Charisma Mystique Pinhole for Charging Closeup
The pinhole charging port on the Calexotics Charisma Mystique.

Despite the pinhole charging port, it’s rated as IPX7 waterproof, and so far has held up well to cleaning and submersion during our tests – so despite some low-quality touches, it seems structurally sound.
