Doxy Original vs Lovehoney Deluxe Rechargeable Mini Massage Wand Side-By-Side Comparison
Performance Ratings
Our Verdict
The Doxy Original packs the extreme power you’d expect from a full-sized wand vibrator.
It has 6 power levels with the first 2 offering a bit of a warm-up before reaching the extreme strength of the top 4 settings. But only the Doxy Original’s lowest level feels rumbly. Whereas other full-sized wands like the Magic Wand Rechargeable offer deeper rumbliness. So this wand is best if you enjoy buzzier vibrations.
Apart from being buzzy on its higher powers (which is somewhat of a personal preference), it has good performance across the board. If you enjoy buzzy vibrations, it’s worth considering. Otherwise, see more rumbly options here.
The Lovehoney Deluxe Mini Wand is one of my weakest wand vibrators. Its vibrations are weaker than many of my best bullet vibrators – they’re not comparable to the immense power you typically expect in a wand vibrator. It’s buzzier than other wands too, and it feels cheap.
While the Lovehoney Mini wand’s small, easily maneuverable size and budget-friendly price tag may be enticing – I think there a better options in this price range.

Vibrations: Power And Range
The Doxy Original is an extremely powerful wand massager. The majority of its levels are significantly stronger than any of my other non-wand vibrators. Only a few wands reach higher powers than the Doxy Original (one of these is the Doxy Die Cast).
I use this wand over my underwear and sometimes leggings too. And even then – I typically stick to the first two power levels.
The Doxy Original’s first level is softer (but still impactful), which I enjoy during my warm-up stage. Some wands skip straight to high-power (including the rechargeable Doxy Die Cast R). But I think it’s important to have softer levels to prevent immediate overstimulation.
After warming up on power level 1, I’ll switch to level 2 for the rest of my time – rarely venturing beyond the second setting. Power 2 jumps up to 6.6 out of 10, so you’ll want to be fully warm by then.
I personally don’t find the jump overwhelming. And most extremely powerful wands like the Doxy Die Cast and Magic Wand Plus have a similar gap between the first and second settings. But if you typically prefer mild stimulation, you’ll want to consider a wand with more settings in the low power range like the Dame Com.
The last four levels are very close together, and each is immensely powerful. It tops out at 8.5 (85% as strong as the Doxy Die Cast – the most powerful wand vibrator). Though it’s less powerful than the Die Cast, most people will not need any more strength.
The Lovehoney Mini Wand is one of my weakest wand vibrators. Its strength is more like a bullet vibrator than a typical wand, and it’s weaker than most of my bullets.
One aspect I enjoy is that it has 9 power levels in total. So I can start off very soft, and make small, incremental changes. It’s a nice warm-up toy. And even though its top level is much softer than other wands, I can still orgasm with it.
But wands are known for their sheer power – so if that’s what you’re expecting from this wand, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
The cheaper Blush Noje W4 has more than 2x the vibration strength. And the comparably-priced Orion Your New Favorite Wand has over 3.75x the power!
And if you want the extreme power wands are famous for, you’ll need to increase your budget a bit. The Magic Wand Plus is the least expensive wand (under $100) with these ultra-powerful vibration levels.
Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)
We rate wands with rumbly vibrations higher than buzzy wands because most people want rumbliness. But this is a personal preference – so a high or low score in this section doesn’t necessarily imply a better or worse wand for you.
I personally enjoy some neutral-feeling vibrations and even the occasional buzzy vibrator! Though I typically enjoy buzzy vibrations when they’re only moderately powerful.
The Doxy Original’s vibrations lean to the buzzy side compared to other wands with similar strength. The lowest power is rumbly, and the second feels neutral. So I really enjoy these first two levels.
But after that, it gets gradually stronger and significantly buzzier. If you enjoy strong, buzzy vibrations then the Doxy Original is a good fit.
But I think most people who want a wand this powerful will prefer more rumbly, deeper vibrations. And in this price range, you have plenty of options:
The Magic Wand Rechargeable, Magic Wand Plus, and BMS PalmPower Extreme (three of my favorites) each have comparable power to the Doxy Original while maintaining deeper rumbliness.
We rate wands with rumbly vibrations higher than wands with buzzy vibrations because most people prefer these low-frequency vibrations. But if your preferences lean more towards the buzzy side, the Lovehoney Deluxe Rechargeable Mini might actually be a good fit for you.
Since it’s a low-powered wand vibrator, you’ll likely spend most of your time using the middle and high power levels. And these are neutral to buzzy-feeling.
I actually enjoy this wands buzziness from time to time. While I find powerful, buzzy vibrations overwhelming – I enjoy softer buzzy vibes like the Lovehoney Deluxe Mini’s occasionally.
But overall, most people prefer something stronger and more rumbly. The Blush Noje W4 and Magic Wand Mini are a better fit for most people since they’re a bit more rumbly.
Comfort & Ease of Use
The Doxy Original is a comfortable option for those who prefer trading off some maneuverability and precise positioning to enjoy the exceptionally broad stimulation a full-sized wand provides.
The large heads of full-sized wands like the Doxy Original are not as good at providing direct stimulation in a precise location. But they’re excellent at broadly diffusing the vibrations over a wide area. And I can use the lip near the top of the Doxy Original’s head to apply firmer pressure to a slightly more focused region if I want.
I don’t use the Doxy Original under the covers since a blanket can restrict the Doxy’s movement with its long handle and power cord.
The silicone buttons are comfortable and easy to press. Though I have to find a good grip so I don’t accidentally press them. There are separate buttons to increase and decrease power. This allows you to quickly test a higher level to see if you’re ready – and if not, quickly tap back down again. This control system is much better than wands with one button to cycle through the settings.
Because of the Lovehoney Mini’s small size and light weight, it’s very comfortable and easy to use. Maneuvering this wand and positioning its head exactly where you want the vibrations is simple.
I also like that the buttons let me adjust the strength easily. Rather than having one button to cycle through power levels, it has separate buttons to increase and decrease vibration strength.
I do have some complaints though. I wish the head was completely smooth rather than textured/ribbed. These ribs create little edges that occasionally poke or pinch me uncomfortably. It’s rare, but I need to be more conscious of positioning this head than smooth wands like the Blush Noje W4 or Magic Wand Mini.
I also find how close together the buttons are mildly annoying. I occasionally press the button to switch patterns when I mean to increase the power. Then I have to cycle back through the patterns to return to a constant vibration.
The Magic Wand Mini’s buttons are farther apart and easier to feel. So I don’t find myself accidentally hitting the wrong button.
Use During Sex
The Doxy Original’s large head prevents it from fitting into tight spaces. But I’ve found this isn’t a huge problem during sex since the vibrations are so strong and they broadly stimulate the entire area around the point of contact with your body.
The Doxy Original’s vibes stimulate my clit even if I’m not pressing its head right near my clit. So I can still enjoy the stimulation in Spooning, Modified Missionary, and Doggystyle positions – all positions where my legs are more closed or our bodies are aligned in a way that doesn’t provide a ton of room.
Doggystyle presents a different challenge since you’re holding the wand up against gravity – the Doxy Original is heavier than average. But I’ve found the Doxy’s long handle helps – I can rest the base of the wand on the bed so my arm doesn’t get too tired.
In the Cowgirl position it’s difficult to fit the wand’s head near enough to my clit if my body’s straight up or I’m leaning forward. In this position, I need to lean backward to create enough space to use the Doxy Original effectively. Whereas small wands like the Lovense Domi fit without needing to adjust how I position my body.
The small size and light weight of this wand make it easy to maneuver into tight spaces during sex. But I never reach for this wand because its vibrations are too weak.
The vibes are hardly noticeable when they’re competing with the additional stimulation I’m getting during penetration. I think most people will want something with more oomph.
The Lovehoney Mini also has a really flexible neck, so I can’t press the vibes firmly into me as I enjoy during sex.
If using your wand with a partner is important to you, the Blush Noje W4 or VeDO Wini are better choices in this price range. It’s also small and easily maneuverable – but its vibrations are stronger and its neck is less flimsy.
Noise
The Doxy Original’s low power is quiet enough to use without someone hearing from the other side of a closed door. But if you live with others, you’ll need to be careful on its mid and upper levels. Turning on a box fan or playing music in the bedroom is enough to make the Doxy Original’s upper power levels discreet.
Note: The sound levels recorded in the video and measurements above were taken before the rattling sound developed which we discuss under Build Quality. For a listen into the wand’s sound now, see the video here.
The Lovehoney Deluxe Rechargeable Mini wand is definitely quiet. But it’s quiet because the vibrations are weak.
There are many wands with much greater power that remain discreet. For instance, the Viben Sultry has more than 4 times the Lovehoney Mini’s power. And it’s still inaudible on the other side of a closed door at every power level.
Attachment Compatibility
The Doxy Original has a wide variety of compatible attachments. Many attachments are designed for the Magic Wand – but the Doxy Original’s head is about the same width. So far, every attachment we own that fits the Magic Wand Rechargeable, also fits the Doxy Original.
You can find a compatible attachment for nearly any type of stimulation. There are attachments for G-spot, anal, prostate, clitoral, penis, and dual-stimulation. To see which specific attachments fit the Doxy Original, see our attachment compatibility table.
Because the Lovehoney Mini is so small, it has very little compatibility with wand attachments.
Lovehoney designed a G-spot attachment (the Queen G) specifically for this wand. But none of my other wand attachments fit the Lovehoney Mini’s small head.
Mount Compatibility
I test my wands with my Liberator Axis and Wanda mounts. The Doxy Original works well with both!
The Axis holds the wand horizontally with a slight upward angle. When I lie across the Axis on my stomach, the broad side of the Doxy Original’s head is at a perfect position for clitoral stimulation. I don’t need to focus on keeping my clit in contact with the head as I do with some smaller wands. And since the Doxy Original’s head is fairly tall, I can spread the contact evenly and comfortably across my vulva.
The head isn’t angled or curved upward as some of my favorite wands to use with the Axis (like the BMS PalmPower Extreme) – so I don’t get as much clitoral pressure. But since the power is so strong, I don’t really need the extra pressure.
The Doxy Original’s head is positioned too high in the Wanda to sit directly on the mount and grind. You’ll need to kneel over the mount, keeping your weight up. Or get on your elbows and knees in a Doggystyle-like position.
Though it’s more limited than a mid-sized massager in the Wanda mount, the broad head still provides excellent clit stimulation.
I test my wands the Liberator Axis and Wanda – wand mounts for hands-free play. Unfortunately, the Lovehoney Deluxe Mini is too small for both of them.
It completely falls into the Liberator Wanda mount. And though its head sticks out past the Axis’ opening, its not far enough to provide any useful clit stimulation.
If hands-free play with mounts is important to you, go with something larger. The Dame Com is one of my favorites to use with wand mounts. Its a great size and the curved shape keeps its head in excellent contact with my clit. Or for something slightly more budget-friendly, the FemmeFunn Ultra Wand works fairly well with mounts too.
Battery Life & Power Source
The Doxy Original is a plug-in wand. So you don’t need to worry about charging it, but you do have to use it by an outlet. The cable is 10 feet long though, so it’s not too restrictive. The Doxy Original also comes with adapters for UK, EU, US & AU outlets.
I personally prefer rechargeable options like the Magic Wand Rechargeable so that I don’t have to worry about the cord getting in the way. But it’s nice that plug-in wands are always ready to go. You never reach for the wand only to realize its battery is dead.
Doxy does have a full-sized rechargeable option (the Doxy Die Cast R), but it is a worse wand overall.
The Lovehoney Deluxe Rechargeable Mini has below average battery life compared to other wand vibrators.
It lasts for around 95 minutes continuously vibrating on high power. This is enough for most people, but you can find more powerful wands that last longer. For example, the Magic Wand Mini lasts 3.5 hours on high power. And it’s nearly 3x stronger than the Lovehoney Deluxe Mini!
Build Quality
The Doxy Original’s build quality is somewhat controversial.
The Doxy Original’s hard plastic handle feels substantial and durable – not flimsy and cheap like some other wands’ plastic. Though it’s not quite as luxurious as the Doxy Die Cast’s aluminum-titanium handle. The Die Cast’s metal construction adds some additional weight and natural pressure against my body that I enjoy.
The Doxy Original’s silicone head is smooth and plush, which makes it very comfortable.
I’ve had my Doxy Original since October 2022 and have experienced no issues with it. While reading through customer feedback, I found most people had a similar experience to me. And even most people who mentioned it broke said it lasted several years first.
“I bought my Doxy 6 years ago from Lovehoney…I don’t normally do reviews, but since this wand has outlasted any of my other power operated sex toys, I felt it deserve a 5 star review”
“Mine finally broke after three years”
“I had [the Doxy Original] for 2 years until it died, then ordered the exact same one again.”
“I’ve had this massage wand for well over a year – always amazed by the power and intensity”
But I did find some people saying their Doxy Original broke quickly:
“This thing was great until it busted on me after just a couple months of use.”
“I had one of these a few years ago and it broke after a few months.”
This appears to be an uncommon experience for the Doxy Original, but it is something to be aware of. If you do experience an issue, the Doxy Original has a one-year warranty. I’ve had mine since 2022 with no issues. I’ll update this Doxy Original review if anything changes.
The Lovehoney Deluxe Rechargeable Mini’s plastic is very lightweight to the point of feeling cheap. Although the neck is extremely flexible, it still feels reasonably strong. But the weak, buzzy motor feels poor quality and has developed a bit of a rattling sound the more we’ve used it. The vibration power occasionally wavers, especially on the low settings.
General Design And Specs
The Doxy Original has no waterproof rating, but you can remove the silicone head cover to clean it safely.
