Doxy Die Cast R vs Orion Grande Wand Side-By-Side Comparison
Performance Ratings
Our Verdict
The Doxy Die Cast R is the new rechargeable version of the famous corded Doxy Die Cast. Like the plug-in version, this wand is best for people who want enormous intensity and value a heavy-duty metal build. But this version provides the convenience of going cordless.
The Die Cast R is nearly as powerful as the plug-in version (most people won’t notice a difference) and just as buzzy on high power, which makes it feel incredibly intense. But unlike the plug-in version, the Die Cast R has no gentle settings. So if you need a softer warmup, you’ll need to use another vibrator first or consider a wand with a broader power range, like the corded Doxy Die Cast or the cordless BMS PalmPower Extreme or Magic Wand Rechargeable.
Besides lacking a gentler setting and having slightly less strength on high, the Doxy Die Cast R is almost identical to the plug-in version. The aluminum construction feels luxurious and helps the wand naturally apply some additional pressure, which I enjoy. So if you value the metal design and prefer extreme power, it can be a good option.
The Orion Grande Wand is an excellent choice if you want intense, rumbly power and don’t need any gentle settings. It’s my most rumbly wand: the deep, low-frequency vibrations travel farther than any other wand I’ve tested – including premium models that cost significantly more.
But it’s not for everyone. All 7 settings are strong to extreme and very close together, so it lacks gentle or moderate levels for warming up. So other powerful wands that also include gentler levels (like the Magic Wand Plus or BMS PalmPower Extreme) are better if enormous rumbliness isn’t your top priority. And with only 30 minutes of battery life, it’s not ideal for long sessions.
The Orion Grande Wand’s firm, wide head works well with attachments and mounts. It’s also quieter than expected, especially for its strength. If you usually skip warmup levels and crave deep vibrations you can feel throughout your core, the Orion Grande is one of the best options available.

Vibrations: Power And Range
The Doxy Die Cast R has an exceptional top vibration strength, but a poor power range.
It’s tied with the BMS Palmpower Extreme and Magic Wand Waterproof as my most powerful rechargeable wand, and its intensity is second only to the corded Doxy Die Cast. But all the vibrations feel strong or extreme – there are no gentle or moderate starting powers to use as a warmup. If you’re sensitive to overstimulation, you’ll probably need to use another vibrator first or consider a wand with a broader power range, like the PalmPower Extreme and even the corded Doxy Die Cast.
As someone who prefers moderate stimulation, I find the Doxy Die Cast R’s first setting decently comfortable without a prior warmup – but only if I press it very firmly against my body. Doing so slows down the motor and makes it feel less intense. And when I use the Doxy Die Cast R, I never make it past the first setting because I don’t need any more strength.
But it’s excellent for anyone who exclusively needs enormous power. The very first setting with a 7.33 out of 10 strength will meet you at the intensity you want, without having to tap through lower power levels first. And its top strength of 9 out of 10 will be more than enough for the average user. Only the corded Doxy Die Cast is stronger, but it’s hardly a noticeable amount.
The Orion Grande Wand has a wonderfully powerful 9 out of 10 max strength, but lacks any gentle or moderate settings, so its range is poor.
There are no low or mid-powered levels – its 7 settings begin strong and just get stronger. This works great if you typically skip straight to the powerful settings, or if you’re willing to use another toy to warm up first. But if you need a wand with gentle levels, this isn’t it.
I usually prefer to start with softer settings, but since the Orion Grande Wand is so rumbly, I’m surprised that I typically enjoy it without any warmup. The rumbliness prevents the stimulation from feeling jarring to me. It just means I’ll reach the finish line a lot quicker rather than slowly building and enjoying a longer session.
If you need a wand with a wider power range, the BMS PalmPower Extreme and Magic Wand Plus have intense top settings and gentler starting levels.
Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)
We rate rumbly wands higher than buzzy wands since most people prefer this. However, it’s up to your personal preference.
The Doxy Die Cast R is a buzzy wand vibrator, so it’s best if you enjoy vibrations that target more at the surface. None of the settings feel rumbly. The gentlest setting has a neutral feel, and everything stronger is moderately to extremely buzzy.
While the corded Doxy Die Cast is comparably buzzy on its upper settings, its lowest two settings are rumbly. So it provides a more versatile experience than the rechargeable. If you want some rumbly settings too, I’d consider the corded Die Cast or the BMS PalmPower Extreme.
One unique aspect I’ve found is that the Doxy Die Cast R’s motor slows down quite a bit if I press the head firmly against my body. By slowing the vibrations down, they approach a more rumbly feeling. I personally enjoy how I can alter the intensity and rumbliness by varying the pressure I apply. If you don’t necessarily need rumbly settings but still enjoy them, you may like experimenting with the Die Cast R’s pressure to find something that feels great to you.
Others will prefer something steadier regardless of the pressure applied. While the corded Doxy Die Cast’s motor is also slightly affected by how hard you press, it’s a much less noticeable effect than with the rechargeable version.
We rate rumbly wands higher than buzzy ones because most people prefer them.
The Orion Grande Wand is my most rumbly wand. None of my other wands reach this high a power while staying this low-frequency. Rumbly vibrations near this strength usually come at a much higher price tag.
I love using this wand as a muscle-massager too because the vibrations travel deep into my body like I haven’t experienced with other wands. When I press this wand against my vulva, I often feel the vibrations through my core. The strong, deep vibrations are my favorite thing about it, and are the Orion Grande’s primary advantage over other wands.
With the Orion Grande, you trade off gentle and moderate settings for affordable rumbly vibrations at extreme strengths. It’s best for those who prioritize the strongest, most rumbly vibrations over everything else.
Comfort & Ease of Use
The Doxy Die Cast R is comfortable and easy to use for a heavy, full-sized wand.
This wand’s substantial weight both positively and negatively affects the wand’s comfort. Anytime you use it with the wand’s head pointed down (like on your back), the heavy weight adds excellent natural downward pressure. So you don’t have to leverage the wand with your arm or wrist much. But this also makes it slower to maneuver and can be tiring when you’re holding the wand up – which happens more frequently during sex than solo use.
The large, round head provides a really broad, comfortable surface area in contact with your body. Though it’s trickier to limit contact to a precise area than with a smaller head. The head’s silicone is slightly plush, which feels comfy and luxurious. And the neck has a bit of flexibility, which keeps it comfortable when applying firm pressure.
The handle is a comfortable size to wrap my hand around, and its cast aluminum construction does an excellent job of preventing much vibration in the handle itself – keeping them focused at the head. I typically hold the wand close to the head because the weight distribution is best there. With that grip, my fingers aren’t near the buttons, so I don’t accidentally press them. Though I need to adjust my grip to change the setting, but I don’t find it distracting.
The controls are simple to use and get you to your preferred setting quickly, with separate buttons to increase or decrease the power. You can turn on the pulsing setting by pressing and holding the power button. The two “+” and “-” buttons also allow you to adjust the speed (not intensity) of the pulses.
The Orion Grande Wand is pretty comfortable and very easy to use.
The handle is thick and heavy, which can be tiring to grip and leverage over long periods. This could be problematic if you like to move your wand around and apply firm pressure.
But I find the vibrations are so strong that I don’t have to press very hard with this wand. And its weight provides a natural downward pressure, so my wrist doesn’t have to do much. The handle dampens the vibrations surprisingly well, so they travel only through the head.
The round head has no uncomfortable edges but is firm, which can bump around if you press too hard. I prefer to rest this wand lightly against me, and let the rumbly vibes travel comfortably through me.
The buttons allow you to increase and decrease strength, so you don’t have to cycle through all the settings as you do with many wands. It’s listed as splashproof, but we could not determine its specific IPX rating, so we recommend cleaning it with a damp cloth.
Use During Sex
The Doxy Die Cast R is good to use during sex.
It’s best in positions where you’re not facing your partner because there’s plenty of space in front of you to maneuver the handle without it bumping into your partner. So you can easily position the Die Cast R wherever you need it.
The broad head keeps the wand in consistent contact with your clit and distributes the pressure evenly so the vibrations travel well. In Spooning and Doggystyle positions, the handle is long enough to rest against the bed to help prop the wand at a good angle. So your arm doesn’t get tired despite the substantial weight.
When you’re facing your partner, you have to get a little more creative with your body’s positioning – possibly leaning back to open up more area for the large head to fit closer to your clit. Thankfully, the vibrations are powerful enough that they are impactful, even if the head is nearby instead directly in contact with your clit. Because the head is so large, it can get pressed into your body with a lot of heavy movement, which can be a bit uncomfortable at times but is not a major issue.
But if face-to-face positions are a priority, a wand with a smaller or angled head, like the BMS PalmPower Extreme, is better.
Even though it’s large and heavy, the Orion Grande Wand is a great wand to use during sex, primarily due to its extreme strength and rumbly vibrations. The vibrations travel extremely well through your body, even when you can’t position the head directly near your clit.
This is important because the Grande’s head is big and firm, so you can’t get it as close to your clit when facing your partner as you could a smaller toy. If you want to apply firm pressure and fit the head close, it takes some effort because the thick handle is tiring to grip tightly, and the firm head can bounce against you.
It’s better to rest the wand against you lightly. The power and extreme rumbliness provide great stimulation even with light pressure. This prevents wrist or hand strain and stops it from bumping around. The vibrations are so deep and powerful that direct contact and firm pressure aren’t necessary for strong stimulation.
In doggystyle, the bulbous mid-point on the handle helps keep the wand from slipping down my hand without needing to grip tightly. The handle is also long enough to rest against the bed to help support its weight, which is essential since it’s so heavy.
I have to stagger my legs in the spooning position because otherwise, the vibrations travel into my legs too much. But the smooth, rounded head distributes pressure comfortably and maintains good contact.
Noise
The Doxy Die Cast R is quite loud.
When we tested whether my partner could hear it from behind our closed bedroom door, he heard every setting. Even after I turned on a box fan in the bedroom my partner still heard the Doxy Die Cast R’s top setting – although he noted that then he could only hear it when I moved the wand around, and he said he’d definitely have to actively listen for the sound to notice it.
Playing music in the bedroom successfully prevented him from hearing the wand on any setting.
If you have housemates and/or discretion is important, the Magic Wand Plus is a comparably powerful wand that was inaudible at least on the lowest power setting. And both a fan and music mask the noise.
The Orion Grande has average noise levels compared to other wands, but is impressively quiet when you factor in its enormous strength.
In our test, my partner could only hear it from behind the closed bedroom door on the highest settings, and hardly at all. He had to open the door several times to confirm it was actually the toy he was hearing. The low-frequency vibes blend really easily into background noise.
Low and middle levels were completely inaudible.
Attachment Compatibility
The Doxy Die Cast R has fantastic compatibility with wand attachments.
Most attachments are made for full-sized heads like this one. In my collection, I found many that fit, providing a wide variety of stimulation types. You should have no trouble finding plenty of options.
To see all the attachments I’ve tested with this wand and others, see our wand attachment compatibility table here.
The Orion Grande Wand has good compatibility with attachments. Several of my attachments fit it with a variety of stimulation types. It’s an excellent choice if you’d like to experiment with attachments to vary your experience.
For all the attachments that fit this wand, see our wand attachment compatibility table here.
Mount Compatibility
We test our wands for hands-free stimulation using the Liberator Axis and Wanda mounts.
The Doxy Die Cast R works wonderfully with both mounts.
In the Liberator Axis, the large, round head provides plenty of surface area to press against comfortably. At 2.5 inches, its head is wider than most, which helps it reach your clit more easily than most straight wands. The strong vibrations travel well to provide great stimulation hands-free. The handle stays securely wedged in the mount.
In the Liberator Wanda, you can kneel above the mount for hands-free stimulation solo or with penetration from behind. The head sticks up quite a bit past the fabric, so you can’t sit directly on the mount as you can with some short wand vibrators. But it provides excellent stimulation when kneeling over it. The broad, tall head is great at distributing pressure evenly so you can comfortably lean against it.
We test every wand with the Liberator Axis and Wanda mounts. The Orion Grande Wand works great with both!
The Axis holds the Orion at an angle while you lie across it on your stomach. The large, rounded head provides a comfortable surface to press against, and the rumbly vibes travel deep for excellent stimulation.
The Wanda holds the Orion pointing up, and you straddle it on your knees. The rumbly vibrations travel well, and the head’s surface is comfortable to press against. I wish the head were a bit more plush – it can feel a little firm if you’re using this with a partner, but it’s still very comfortable overall.
Battery Life
The Doxy Die Cast R is rechargeable and has a decent battery life, lasting for 75 minutes on its highest power in our test. Considering this wand’s enormous strength, that’s a reasonable battery life.
There is an automatic shutoff after 20 minutes of continuous use, but you can turn it back on immediately. You cannot use the Doxy Die Cast R while it’s charging (very few wands allow that – the Magic Wand Rechargeable is one that does).
The Orion Grande Wand is rechargeable but has a very short battery life. In my tests, it only lasted 30 minutes on high power. This means it’s essential to charge between uses.
The BMS PalmPower Extreme is another great, powerful wand that lasts 108 minutes if you need something longer.
Build Quality
The Doxy Die Cast R has great build quality.
The cast aluminum handle feels very sturdy, and the slightly flexible neck feels strong, so I’m not afraid to apply pressure. The silicone head is slightly plush, which feels comfortable and high-quality. It feels well-made and luxurious.
The motor does have a slight waver at times, where it will dip or raise by 1 or 2 Hz. I can hear the waver (listen below), but it doesn’t impact my experience – I can’t feel this slight difference.
I want to note that when we purchased the Doxy Die Cast R, the first one we received arrived with a defect. It would shut off randomly despite having a full charge, and the power would dip substantially. These issues were noticeable immediately upon using the toy (not something that developed over time). We believe something likely happened during shipping.
We contacted Doxy support right away, and they replaced it quickly. We had to send a video showing and explaining our issue and then cut the charging cable. They sent a new product within 3 business days of our initial email. And our new product has worked great.
Our rating for build quality is based on the undamaged wand we received. Doxy also has a 2-year warranty when you register your wand for free on their site.
The Orion Grande Wand has good build quality. The body feels solid with a strong neck that seems unlikely to break. It’s almost entirely coated in smooth silicone, which feels luxurious.
If you squeeze the head very hard, you can feel that the head’s casing has some strange lumps, but doesn’t affect performance. The silicone at the neck feels a little thin, but hasn’t caused any problems.
I want to note that the first Orion Grande Wand we received was defective. We believe it likely got damaged during shipping, as it never worked for us. We reached out to PeepShowToys (who we purchased it from) right away, and they sent us a replacement, so the above notes are based on our second, properly functioning wand.
The first wand wouldn’t turn on consistently unless we plugged in the charger briefly before use, even if it was fully charged.
The new product does not have any issues and reliably powers on.
General Design And Specs
The Doxy Die Cast R has no waterproof rating, but you can remove the silicone head to clean it easily. Fully dry it before putting it back on the wand.
This wand is listed as “splashproof” on both the manufacturer’s and retailers’ websites. However, we reached out to the brand, asking for the specific IPX rating, and have not received a response.
“Splashproof” usually means an IPX5 or 6 rating, which are both safe to use under running water (like cleaning under a faucet or using in the shower). However, “splashproof” is occasionally used to describe an IPX4 rating, which is only safe against accidental splashes, and is not safe to run under water.
Since we don’t know the IPX rating, we recommend only cleaning it with a damp cloth.
