Vibrations: Power And Range

Max Power Rating 8.2 7.8
Power Range Rating 5.0 5.1
Power vs Frequency Graph
How Strong Is Each Power?

The Doxy Die Cast 3R is an extremely high-powered wand vibrator. Its top power is a 7.3 out of 10 – it is substantially more powerful than non-wand vibrators you may have tried like G-spot, rabbit, egg, and bullet vibrators, etc.

There are a few more powerful wands like the BMS PalmPower Extreme and Doxy Die Cast. But the 3R is definitely intense. I prefer to use it over my underwear to dampen its power.

Arranged from lowest to highest power (left to right: Lovense Lush 3, We-Vibe Tango X (top), We-Vibe Nova 2, Lelo Mona 2, Doxy Die Cast 3R, BMS PalmPower Extreme, and Doxy Die Cast)

Something that bothers me about the Doxy 3R is that the range between its highest and lowest power is tiny. The lowest power is about 6.5 – so there are no gentle levels. Unless you’re always ready for intense power, you’ll likely need to use another vibrator as a warmup.

Both the BMS PalmPower Extreme and Doxy Die Cast have exceptional power like the Doxy 3R, but they also have low levels beginning at 2 out of 10. Even if you enjoy strong power, I recommend getting something with some low levels too.

The Doxy 3 USB-C has a great top strength but a poor power range. It’s best if you prioritize strong, but not overwhelming power and don’t need gentle starting settings.

The max power of 7 out of 10 is stronger than all my non-wand vibrators. It’s more than I need, but I can still use this setting somewhat comfortably. It’s not too strong for me like other Doxy wands’ top settings.

The Doxy wands from weakest to strongest top power. From left to right: Doxy Die Cast 3 USB-C, Doxy 3R, Doxy Number 3, Doxy Original, Doxy Die Cast R, and Doxy Die Cast

The lack of soft and moderate settings may be problematic for some – this wand starts out strong at a 6 out of 10 intensity. If you need a gentle warmup, the Magic Wand Plus is a better option in this price range.

But I personally find the Doxy 3 USB-C’s starting level comfortable. It’s a slightly softer start than the Doxy Die Cast 3 or 3R provide, which makes a huge difference for me! I have to warm up with another toy before using the Die Cast 3 or 3R. But that slight difference in power makes the Doxy 3 USB-C comfortable to me – even without using another toy to warm up. Part of this may also be due to the frequency.

Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)

Rumbliness Rating 6.3 5.6
Power vs Frequency Graph
Frequency on Low Power 65 Hz 91 Hz
Median Frequency 92 Hz 107 Hz
Frequency on High Power 108 Hz 127 Hz
Power and Frequency Balance 6.7 6.2

While vibration frequency is a personal preference, we give better ratings to wands with deep, rumbly (low-frequency) vibrations. We rate buzzy wands more poorly because generally, people prefer rumbliness.

The Doxy 3R has some vibrations that are moderately rumbly on the lowest powers. But you have to apply some pressure in order for these levels to feel rumbly. The 3R’s motor slows down quite a bit when you press it against you. Without this pressure, even the lowest levels feel buzzy.

Most of the Doxy Die Cast 3R’s settings feel moderately to extremely buzzy. With this much power, I need more rumbliness. The 3R’s ultra-powerful buzzy vibrations feel overwhelming and uncomfortable to me.

The Doxy Die Cast 3R with some rumblier alternatives. From left to right: Doxy Die Cast 3R, BMS PalmPower Extreme, We-Vibe Wand 2 and the Lovense Domi 2.

Many equally powerful wands vibrate at a lower frequency, which keeps them comfortable and enjoyable. Some of my favorites include the BMS PalmPower Extreme, We-Vibe Wand 2, and Lovense Domi 2.

We rate rumbly vibrations higher than buzzy ones because it’s what most people prefer, but ultimately it’s just that – a preference.

The Doxy 3 USB-C is a buzzy wand vibrator, which I personally enjoy. But if you want rumbly settings, the Magic Wand Plus or Lovense Domi 2 are better options in this price range for you.

The Doxy 3 USB-C provides some of the highest-frequency vibrations of all my wands. It begins at 91 Hz, which is moderately buzzy, and finishes extremely buzzy at 127 Hz. These high-frequency vibrations remain more concentrated near the spot you’re pressing the wand than rumbly vibrations, helping you target a specific spot really well. But the vibrations don’t reach as far as rumbly vibes do.

Doxy 3 USB-C, Doxy Die Cast 3, and Doxy Die Cast 3R vibration graphs

I think the Doxy 3 USB-C’s combination of buzziness and power is just right for someone like me who enjoys buzzy vibes. The pricier Die Cast 3 and 3R are slightly more powerful and a bit less buzzy. As a result of their additional power, their vibrations feel overwhelming to me, and their slightly lower frequency vibrations are fatiguing when the head touches near my leg. But the Doxy 3 USB-C’s vibrations remain where I want them, and are at a comfortable intensity.

I also like leveraging my vibrators for extra firm pressure, and this is more comfortable to do with the USB-C’s buzzy vibrations because high-frequency vibrations don’t cause the wand to bump against my pubic bone (which can cause soreness) as some rumbly vibrators can.

As a fan of buzzy vibrations, I like this wand.

The Doxy Die Cast 3R is not the most comfortable wand.

It’s a comfortable size, and its controls are good – allowing you to increase and decrease the power. But you feel the Doxy 3R’s vibrations in your hands far too much. It’s distracting and unpleasant. Surprisingly, the plastic version of this wand, the Doxy 3 USB-C, dampens the vibrations in your hand much better.

The head comfort is average. You can fit its small head comfortably in tight spaces. But since the 3R’s head is so firm, some people will wish its neck was more flexible.

Overall, there are several powerful wands that transfer the vibrations to your vulva without vibrating your hands. Consider these options:

The Viben Sultry has a more comfortable head with a more flexible neck. The handle is also contoured to provide a very comfy grip.

The BMS PalmPower Extreme is another easy-to-use, and comfortable option. I especially love the angled head on this wand. It makes it easy to apply firm pressure without any wrist strain.

Or the Lovense Domi 2 has a small head to fit in tight spaces like the Doxy 3R. But it’s more flexible and comfortable.

The Doxy 3 USB-C is very comfortable and easy to use.

It’s a light wand with a small head, making it easy to maneuver and great for more precise stimulation. The neck is rigid, so if you’re worried about a stiff wand bumping against your pubic bone uncomfortably, you may want something with more flexibility or a plush head like the Magic Wand Plus‘s. But the small head allows me to limit contact to softer areas of my body so it stays comfortable to me.

Firm Head of Doxy 3 USB-C
The smaller firm head of the Doxy 3 USB-C (above) compared to the larger, plush head of the Magic Wand Plus (below)
Plush Head of Magic Wand Plus

I tend to press it at around a 45-degree angle against my body, so the rounded portion of the Doxy 3 USB-C’s head is what contacts my vulva, and this is very comfortable. However, the sudden edge where the head ends could be uncomfortable if you typically angle your wand more sharply, pressing the side of the head against you. In this case, a more rounded head like the Lovense Domi’s (rumbly) or Le Wand Dive’s (buzzy) may be more comfortable.

The Doxy 3 USB-C’s head (left) ends in a sharp angle compared to the rounded head of the Lovense Domi (right)

The slim handle is comfortable to wrap your hand around, and the controls are excellent – allowing you to increase and decrease power separately. There are 8 steady vibration powers or a pulsing pattern if you press and hold the power button.

Until you become familiar with your grip on the wand, it can be easy to accidentally press one of the buttons since they take up a lot of space on the handle. But that’s become rare as I’ve used the wand more.

Grip on Doxy 3 USB-C Limited by Large Buttons
The large Doxy buttons take up a large surface area of the handle so it can be easy to accidentally press them when you grip the wand

The vibrations in the handle are much less than the Die Cast 3R and 3. I can feel them when I’m just holding the wand, but I don’t find them distracting while using the Doxy 3 USB-C as I did with the Die Cast models. These other Doxy wands’ vibrations also feel more fatiguing – particularly in my leg. This is not the case with the Doxy 3 USB-C, so I enjoy using this wand much more than these older, more expensive versions.

Use During Sex

Use During Sex Rating 5.6 8.0

Doxy 3 USB-C Fit in Tight Space
Spooning 5.9 9.0
Doggystyle 3.5 7.4
Modified Missionary 5.9 8.0
Cowgirl 7.0 7.4

No sugar-coating this one. The Doxy Die Cast 3R comes in dead last for use during sex.

As with solo use, the biggest issue is feeling the vibrations way too much in your hands. It’s also a little heavy and tiring to hold.

The Doxy Die Cast 3R’s head is also very firm. With a lot of movement during sex, the firm head can bump uncomfortably into my pubic bone – especially in positions where my partner and I are facing each other. But this doesn’t happen too frequently since its head is small, so I can keep it pressed to fleshier parts of my body fairly easily. The bigger issue is the vibrations in your hands.

If you’re looking for a wand to use during sex, there are much better options out there.

The Lovense Domi 2 is a similar size and shape to the Doxy 3R – so it also fits easily between your bodies. But the flexible neck keeps it from pressing uncomfortably against my body. It’s one of my favorites during sex.

Another of my favorites is the BMS PalmPower Extreme. Even though its head is larger than the Doxy 3R’s, its angled shape makes it easy to fit between our bodies and comfortably leverage the wand.

The Doxy 3 USB-C is a good wand to use during sex!

I enjoy it most in the spooning or modified missionary positions. The small head fits easily into tight spaces, and the lightweight handle is easy to maneuver. So you can quickly make adjustments and keep the head in consistent contact with your body.

The cord does not get in the way in these positions since it’s resting on the bed, so there are minimal distractions.

Doxy 3 USB-C Cord Pulling
The cord pulls more easily when it’s suspended in air

I’ve noticed the cord pulls on the vibrator more often in the doggystyle and cowgirl positions since the cord is suspended in the air and the handle is so light. But you can still get great stimulation once you figure out how to position the cord.

Since the head is firm, it can be mildly uncomfortable if it gets pressed into your pubic bone during tight sex positions. It’s not as cushioned as plush heads like the Magic Wands‘. But since the head is small, this doesn’t happen frequently like it can with larger heads.

In doggystyle, the handle is long enough to rest against the bed if you want to support its weight. But the hand vibrations in the handle become more noticeable if you do this. The light weight makes it easy enough to hold up and leverage in this position anyway, even for longer periods. And this method provides the best stimulation.

High Power Audible Audible

The Doxy Die Cast 3R is somewhat loud. Because it doesn’t have any truly gentle levels, even its lowest settings produce a fair amount of noise.

However, my partner still cannot hear the lower and middle levels from the other side of a closed bedroom door. But he can hear the Doxy 3R’s upper power levels. Even turning on a box fan does not mask the sound of the 3R on high. It took turning music on in the bedroom to finally make the 3R inaudible on high.

This might be ok if you plan to stick to the lower levels or if you don’t live with other people.

But if you need something more discreet, the We-Vibe Wand 2 has the same strength, and its rumbly vibrations were not audible from the other side of a closed door at any power level!

The Doxy 3 USB-C is noisy, which is not surprising considering its strength.

When we tested its audibility in a silent house, my partner could just barely hear it from the other side of our closed bedroom door on the low and middle strengths. But it was definitely audible to him on high power.

From inside the room, I don’t find the sound of the vibrations distracting. The pricier metal versions have a really grating sound to them which I find incredibly distracting (listen below). But the Doxy 3 USB-C’s vibrations sound much cleaner, quieter, and don’t bother me at all (listen above).

The Doxy Die Cast 3’s vibrations have a distracting, grating sound. But the Doxy 3 USB-C’s vibrations are much cleaner.

If you have housemates and need to be discreet, the Doxy 3 USB-C’s noise is easily drowned out by a box fan or music in the bedroom. Otherwise, the Le Wand Dive is quieter, and my favorite buzzy wand.

For a mid-sized wand, the Doxy Die Cast 3R has excellent compatibility with wand attachments.

Doxy makes their own high-quality attachments for the Doxy 3R and Doxy Number 3. You can unscrew the Doxy 3R’s head, and screw one of the Doxy’s attachments directly to the motor. So these attachments have an incredibly secure fit.

Doxy makes clitoral, dual-stimulation, prostate, and penis attachments that screw directly onto the 3R’s head.

You can also use some other brands’ attachments with the Doxy Die Cast 3R. For instance, all the attachments designed for the Le Wand Petite also fit over the 3R’s head. These brands will simply slip on top of the default head – they won’t screw into place as the Doxy brand’s attachments do.

So between Le Wand and Doxy’s attachments, you have a broad variety of options to use with the Doxy 3R.

The Doxy 3 USB-C has great compatibility with attachments. Doxy has their own line of attachments, which screw right onto the head. Several non-Doxy attachments also fit over the head, including the Le Wand Petite attachments.

You can find attachments offering a wide variety of stimulation that are compatible with this wand, even though it has a smaller head. For more specifics, you can check our wand attachment compatibility table here.

Compatibility with Wanda 10.0 10.0

I test my wands with Liberator’s wand mounts – the Axis and Wanda.

The Doxy Die Cast 3R works really well with the Wanda mount. This mount holds the wand upright at a slight angle. Then you straddle the mount for hands-free clit stimulation. You can also bend over the mount on your knees for clitoral vibes during sex.

The 3R is a great length for the Wanda – its head sticks out just a little past the fabric. This means I can sit directly on the mount and don’t need to keep my body raised as I do with some taller wands.

The 3R doesn’t work as well with the Axis though. This mount is designed for you to lie on your stomach. It holds the wand out to the side and angled slightly upward between your legs. I use this mount most during penetration from behind.

Wand In Use with Axis Overlay
My typical position when using the Liberator Axis mount (demonstrated with BMS PalmPower Extreme)

Because the 3R lacks an upward curve and its head is fairly small, it doesn’t stay in good contact with my clit. Wands with wider, taller heads or a curved/angled handle work best with the Liberator Axis.

BMS PalmPower Extreme vs Doxy 3R in Axis Mount
Angled heads like the BMS PalmPower Extreme (pink) provide firmer pressure than straight wands with small heads like the Doxy 3R (black)

The Dame Com and BMS PalmPower Extreme are two of my favorites to use with mounts! Both have that curved handle or angled head, which keeps better contact with my clit.

I test my wands with the Liberator Axis and Wanda mounts for hands-free stimulation.

The Doxy 3 USB-C does not work well with the Axis but is excellent with the Wanda mount.

In the Axis, the head is too small to stimulate well, and it’s not angled upward enough, so it’s difficult to get good pressure on your clit. Wands with a larger head like the Magic Wand Plus or angled head like the BMS PalmPower Extreme, work better in the Liberator Axis.

Wand In Use with Axis Overlay
Wands with an upward angle, like the PalmPower Extreme shown here, reach your clit more easily while using them with the Axis

In the Liberator Wanda, the Doxy 3 USB-C is positioned at a great height to kneel above during penetration from behind. It provides excellent, comfortable contact so you can enjoy the vibes hands-free.

You can also sit down on the mount for hands-free stimulation. This position is only possible with handles that aren’t too long, like the Doxy 3 USB-C’s, and it’s a great setup for solo hands-free fun.

Battery Life & Power Source

Battery Life Rating 6.8 N/A

Doxy 3 USB-C Charging Cable Photo
Power Source Rechargeable Plug-In
Battery Life on High Power 75 Minutes N/A
Can Be Used While Plugged In No NA
Charging Cable Round Plug NA
Cord Length N/A 9.5 feet

The Doxy Die Cast 3R lasts for about 75 minutes continuously running on high power.

Though this is one of the shorter battery lives of my wand vibrators, it’s plenty for most people. But if you’re like me, and often forget to charge between uses… there are definitely longer-lasting wands like the Magic Wand Rechargeable which lasts over 4 hours on high.

Or of course, if you want the highest power with no battery limits, there are several plug-in options including the Doxy Number 3 and the Doxy Die Cast.

The Doxy 3 USB-C is a plug-in wand with a 9.5-foot cord. You don’t have to worry about keeping this wand charged, but you do have to be near an outlet to play, so it’s not as mobile-friendly as rechargeable wands.

The USB-C cable is not as common as a typical USB. If you don’t already have a USB-C to wall outlet adapter, you’ll need to purchase a 5V/3A USB-C plug adapter to use this wand.

Build Quality

Build Quality Rating 9.0 7.5

Though I don’t love the Doxy Die Cast 3R’s performance, it has excellent build quality.

The aluminum body feels high-quality and durable. The head’s smooth silicone coating is a luxurious texture. And the threaded removable head is an excellent idea to make cleaning easier and ensure wand attachments have a perfectly secure fit.

Everything feels incredibly sturdy – I’d have no concerns that applying firm pressure will damage this wand. I expect it to last for many years.

The Doxy 3 USB-C has good build quality.

The lightweight ABS Plastic handle is not as luxurious-feeling as metal or silicone-coated wands. But it still feels solid and well-built. And the threaded part of the removable head is still made of metal for durability.

The cord attaches securely and has a knitted coating for protection. The buttons can be a little unresponsive sometimes if you don’t push them firmly, but it just takes some getting used to.

Doxy also has a 2-year warranty when you register your wand for free on their site.
