Vibrations: Power And Range

Max Power Rating 7.8 8.2
Power Range Rating 8.1 5.0
Power vs Frequency Graph
How Strong Is Each Power?

When the PalmPower Recharge is working properly (see the issues I encountered here), it has excellent vibration power and range – especially for a wand this small.

The BMS brand excels at fitting powerful motors into compact toys! For instance, the PalmPower Extreme is one of my most powerful wand vibrators despite being just a mid-sized wand. And the BMS Essential Bullet is my cheapest bullet vibrator with excellent power. The PalmPower Recharge is no exception.

It also has soft low levels that are great when warming up. Then you press and hold the button to gradually increase power.

The PalmPower Recharge’s top power feels 70% as strong as the Doxy Die Cast’s (my strongest wand vibrator). That’s really impressive given how much smaller and lighter the PalmPower is – the Doxy is nearly 5x heavier.

Small PalmPower Rechargeable with Comparable Strength to Large Doxy Die Cast
The PalmPower Recharge is 70% the strength of the Doxy Die Cast (left), but is significantly smaller

Unfortunately, it frequently drops back down to a lower power level. So in practical use, it doesn’t always maintain that top strength.

At the same cost, you can get the FemmeFun Ultra Wand, which is similar in size (though has a slightly larger head), and reaches the same top strength of 7/10. The downside is that it starts somewhat strong even on the lowest power level. So if you need some soft warmup levels too, you may consider the Magic Wand Mini instead.

BMS PalmPower Rechargeable with Similar Powers
PalmPower Extreme pictured with better alternatives – left to right: FemmeFunn Ultra Wand, Magic Wand Mini and Magic Wand Plus

Or if you’re up for a larger wand, the Magic Wand Plus is also about the same price. And it has an even wider power range. It’s the most powerful wand under $100.

While I’m happy with the BMS PalmPower Recharge’s vibration strength when it’s working well – these other wands have provided a much more reliable experience.

The Doxy Die Cast Number 3 is an extremely powerful wand massager. It’s much stronger than any non-wand vibrators I own. I have a hard time using it without underwear or clothes to dampen its intensity.

This power can be nice if you’re warmed up and ready for that strength. But the limited range between the Doxy Number 3’s low and high power levels is a big problem.

The softest power this wand reaches is 6.5 out of 10 – already more intense than any of my non-wand vibrators. So even though there are 6 levels between low (6.5 out of 10) and high (7.5 out of 10), it’s immense power from beginning to end.

I don’t find myself using this wand – it’s too overwhelming in the beginning and takes me out of the mood.

For this price, there are several wand massagers with just as much power that also have better warmup levels. My favorites are the Magic Wand Rechargeable, BMS PalmPower Extreme, and Doxy Die Cast.

Vibrations: Frequency (Rumbliness)

Rumbliness Rating 7.7 5.9
Power vs Frequency Graph
Frequency on Low Power 42 Hz 81 Hz
Median Frequency 60 Hz 101 Hz
Frequency on High Power 99 Hz 121 Hz
Power and Frequency Balance 6.3 6.5

The BMS PalmPower Recharge’s lower powers are fairly rumbly. But it gets buzzy on its highest powers.

My favorite wands tend to be a little more rumbly than this wand. The Magic Wand Plus (high-powered) and Dame Com (moderately powered) are great, rumbly options in this price range.

Or for a rumbly wand closer to the PalmPower Recharge’s size, consider the Lovense Domi 2.

We rate wands with rumbly (low-frequency) vibrations higher than buzzy wands. This is because most people prefer rumbly vibrations – especially when the vibes are this intense.

Unfortunately, the Doxy 3 has very buzzy vibrations. Not even its lowest power levels feel rumbly. And its top three settings are extremely buzzy. Immensely powerful vibrations like these tend to feel overstimulating and uncomfortable when they’re this buzzy. I experienced the same issue when I tested the Doxy Bullet.

Although some people will enjoy these high-frequency vibrations, most will prefer something more rumbly.

Doxy Number 3 vs BMS PalmPower Extreme vs Magic Wand Rechargeable - Vibration Power vs Frequency Graph

The Magic Wand Rechargeable and BMS PalmPower Extreme are two high-powered wands with lovely, rumbly lower levels. And even their highest powers are more neutral – never reaching a truly buzzy feel. Or if you’d prefer to stick with a compact wand, the Lovense Domi 2’s rumbly vibrations are also more enjoyable.

I prefer each of these wands’ vibration quality to the Doxy Die Cast 3.

The BMS PalmPower Rechargeable is not painful or difficult to use. But it has some quirks to get used to.

I find the thin, tapered handle awkward to hold and leverage. And I’m not a fan of the seam running through the middle of the head either. The seam is there so you can remove the default head, and put on a PalmPower Recharge wand attachment. But the seam is uncomfortable when I press the wand to my body.

The control system is a feature you’ll either love or hate. It has one button – and instead of tapping once to change the power level, you press and hold the button. The power continues increasing until you release the button. I personally find it irritating because you can easily pass up your intended power level. Then you need to turn the wand off and back on to start over.

Button Options of PalmPower Rechargeable vs Others
PalmPower Recharge’s one button, which allows you to hold to increase power, compared to multi-button wands (Magic Wand Mini, Magic Wand Plus and Lovense Domi)

For comparably priced wands with more traditional controls and comfortable heads consider the Magic Wand Mini or Magic Wand Plus.

If you want a comfortable wand with an especially small head like the PalmPower’s, the Lovense Domi 2 is a good option.

The Doxy Number 3 has average comfort and ease of use – though it can take some time to get used to.

The buttons are large and positioned where my fingers naturally rest. This makes changing power levels easy. But I regularly press the buttons by accident, especially when trying to leverage the wand to apply pressure. So you have to find the right grip on the handle.

I can also feel the vibrations in my hands while using the Doxy Number 3. They’re less noticeable than with the rechargeable version of this wand (the Doxy Die Cast 3R), but the cheaper plastic version (the Doxy 3 USB-C) actually vibrates my hand the least of these wands.

The head is small, which makes it easy to fit into tight areas, and I can limit the contact to softer areas of my body to keep it comfortable. But some people will find a plush head like the Magic Wand Plus’s more comfy.

Doxy 3 Ridge
The abrupt edge of the Doxy 3 models can make them a bit uncomfortable to press at some angles.

There’s also an edge where the bottom of the head transitions to the neck. I typically angle my wands at about a 45-degree angle, so the rounded part of the head contacts my body comfortably. But if you angle your wand so that the bottom of the head contacts you, the edge could be uncomfortable.

For a more comfortable compact wand, consider the Lovense Domi 2 or the slightly larger BMS PalmPower Extreme which have better flexibility.

The full-sized Doxy Die Cast and Magic Wand Rechargeable also have more plush, comfy heads than the Doxy Die Cast 3.

Use During Sex

Doxy Die Cast 3 Fit in Tight Space
Spooning 9.0 7.5
Doggystyle 7.0 8.0
Modified Missionary 9.0 8.0
Cowgirl 9.0 7.5

The BMS Rechargeable does pretty well during sex. It’s short and has a small head, so it fits easily between your bodies. And maneuvering it around your vulva is a breeze.

It does best in Spooning, Modified Missionary, and Cowgirl positions. If it weren’t for the uncomfortable seam along its head and its unreliable power, I’d really enjoy the PalmPower Recharge during sex.

It’s not the best choice for Doggystyle though. I find mid-sized or taller wands work better in this position. Since you also have to support your bodyweight, reaching back so far with a small wand can get tiring.

The Lovense Domi is one of my favorites to use in all positions. It has a slightly longer handle than the PalmPower Recharge, which helps in Doggystyle. But its head is still short and slim – so it fits easily between legs and bodies.

Comparable Size of PalmPower Rechargeable FemmeFunn Ultra and Lovense Domi
PalmPower Recharge with wands of a comparable size – FemmeFunn Ultra Wand (middle) and Lovense Domi (right)

Or if you’re needing to stick closer to the PalmPower’s price, the FemmeFunn Ultra Wand is a great option! It’s fairly small and has a more comfortable head. So it works better in all positions.

The Doxy Die Cast 3 is decently easy to use during partnered sex.

For a wand with a small head, it still has a reasonably long handle which helps you maneuver the wand easily. You don’t have to reach as far as you do with short wands. And you can make adjustments quickly.

Because the Doxy Die Cast 3 has a small head, it fits well in tight spots during sex. But I wish it was plusher like the Magic Wands or full-sized Die Cast. When my partner and I are moving a lot, the Doxy Number 3’s firm head can bump uncomfortably against my pubic bone. But that doesn’t happen frequently since the head is small, and I can keep it pressed against a soft area of my body pretty easily.

The compact Lovense Domi 2 also solves this issue by providing a more forgiving, flexible neck that absorbs more of the impact during heavy movement.

High Power Audible Audible
High Power with Box Fan Inaudible Inaudible
High Power with Music Inaudible Inaudible

In a silent house, the BMS PalmPower Rechargeable’s upper power levels can be heard from the other side of a closed bedroom door. But its middle and low levels remain inaudible. This is fairly common with wands this powerful.

And when I turn a box fan on in the bedroom, my partner can no longer hear the wand from the other side of the door. Music will also mask its sound.

If you are nervous about noise, the Viben Sultry has even more power than the PalmPower Recharge, but it remains inaudible behind a closed door on all power levels. Even without a fan or music.

The Doxy Number 3 is a loud wand massager.

It’s best if you are home alone, or don’t have roommates. If I’m using this wand in the bedroom, my partner can hear it on the other side of the door even on its lowest power level. The good news is, you can drown out the noise by turning on a box fan or music in the bedroom.

But if discretion is important to you, it’s best to choose a wand with some inaudible levels like the Magic Wand Rechargeable.

Stimulation Variety 7.5 10.0

The BMS PalmPower Recharge is only compatible with BMS’s attachments designed specifically for the PalmPower.

You can remove the default silicone cap over the motor and replace it with any of the PalmPower’s attachments. The attachments and motor have matching grooves that secure them to each other.

BMS offers several attachments for this wand, so you still have some selection range. They have insertable attachments for G-spot, prostate, anal, and dual-stimulation. They also have some fluttery attachments to change how your clit stimulation feels. But there are no compatible attachments designed for penis stimulation.

And other brands’ attachments do not fit the PalmPower Recharge since its head is so much smaller than other wands. If you want more attachment selection than BMS provides, you’ll likely want to choose a full-sized wand like the Magic Wand Plus or Magic Wand Rechargeable which are compatible with attachments from many brands.

The Doxy Die Cast 3 has excellent attachment compatibility for a wand its size. It’s compatible with Doxy branded attachments among others.

Doxy designs attachments specifically for the Doxy Number 3 and its rechargeable version (the Doxy Die Cast 3R). These screw directly to the Doxy Number 3’s head for a snug fit.

These attachments provide a wide range of stimulation options including prostate, anal, penis, dual-stimulation, and clitoral.

Le Wand Petite’s attachments also fit the Doxy Number 3. These won’t replace the default head as Doxy’s attachments do. But you can slip them over the Number 3’s head as you would normally.

Between Le Wand and Doxy’s attachments, you have a broad variety of options to use with the Doxy Die Cast 3.

I test all my wands with my two Liberator mounts for hands-free play: the Axis and Wanda.

Unfortunately, the BMS PalmPower Rechargeable is too small for either mount. I can’t get any clit stimulation from it.

The head just barely sticks out past the Axis, and it’s completely swallowed up in the Wanda. Plus, since the tapered handle is so thin, the mounts hold the PalmPower Recharge very loosely.

If hands-free play is a big priority to you, I’d recommend getting a medium or large wand.

The Dame Com and Magic Wand Plus both work well with Liberator mounts. They’re in the same price range as the PalmPower Recharge.

Medium or Large Sized Wands in Mounts
Other more mount-compatible wands – the Dame Com in the Liberator Wanda mount (left) and the BMS PalmPower Extreme in the Liberator Axis mount (right)

And my favorite wand to use in mounts is the BMS PalmPower Extreme. This wand’s angled head is positioned just right and applies the best pressure during hands-free play.

The Doxy Number 3 fits well with the Liberator Wanda mount for hands-free stimulation.

This mount holds the wand up at a slight angle. You can straddle the mount and lower your weight onto the wand for clit stimulation. And if you lean forward you can also create enough room for penetration from behind.

The Doxy Number 3’s length is just right for the Wanda – its head is positioned in a great spot. And the round shape of the Doxy 3’s head is very comfortable in the Wanda.

Wand In Use with Axis Overlay
My typical position when using the Liberator Axis mount (demonstrated with BMS PalmPower Extreme)

When placed in the Liberator Axis mount, the Doxy Number 3 provides little clit stimulation. The head is too small to keep consistent, firm contact with your clit.

Doxy Number 3 vs BMS PalmPower Extreme in Axis Mount
The small head of the Doxy Number 3 (black) does not provide as much pressure as the angled, larger head of the BMS PalmPower Extreme (pink) in the Axis mount

If you are using the Axis, I prefer wands with larger heads like the Magic Wand Rechargeable or Doxy Die Cast. Or a wand with an angled head like the BMS PalmPower Extreme. This is my favorite wand to use in both mounts!

Battery Life & Power Source

The BMS PalmPower Rechargeable has a relatively short battery life compared to other wands. It lasts for about an hour on high power – which is still plenty of time for most people, but you’ll need to remember to charge it between uses.

If you enjoy longer sessions, many wands provide more playtime between charges. The Lovense Domi 2 is a similar size to the BMS PalmPower Recharge and lasts over 2 hours on high.

The Doxy Number 3 is a plug-in wand, so you never need to charge it. As long as you’re near an outlet, you can play! And the cable is 10 feet long, so you don’t need to be that near to an outlet. The Doxy Number 3 also comes with adapters for UK, EU, US & AU outlets.

Cords can be a minor annoyance, but I don’t personally find them distracting. If the wand itself is good, I don’t mind a wall outlet as the power source.

Build Quality

Build Quality Rating 2.0 9.0

The BMS PalmPower Recharge’s poor build quality is the main dealbreaker for me.

The motor fluctuates between power levels, rather than remaining at the intensity I set. The fact that it drops from 100% power to 20%, then jumps back to 40% makes it very distracting to use. And it sometimes causes me to lose my orgasm.

I noticed this issue with the first PalmPower Rechargeable I bought, so I purchased a second one to review in case it was a fluke. Unfortunately, I encountered the same issue with the replacement.

This wand feels very solid. It has a metal casing on the outside and it definitely feels like it will last. The head’s silicone is also smooth, with a high-quality feel.

The only reason the Doxy Number 3 doesn’t get a 10 is that the buttons can be less responsive than I’d like. So sometimes I have to press a button twice before it responds.

Although I don’t enjoy the powerful, buzzy vibrations it produces, the motor feels durable. I expect this to last many years.
